Aquatic Physical Therapy
Midwest
Physical Therapy offers Aquatic Rehabilitation at The Landing,
3500 Faulkner Drive, and Prairie Life Center, 1305 S 70th Street.
A physical therapist and/or physical therapist assistant works with
patients in the water. Our staff is always searching for better
and faster ways to rehabilitate our patients. Working with patients
in warm water is effective because of the reduced gravity environment
created by the buoyancy of the water. Immersion in warm water also
aids muscular relaxation.
Many patients are able to initiate therapeutic
activities sooner when put in a pool. Patients who have had
an
anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery may begin walking
and running much earlier, total knee patients may work on regaining
knee range of motion using the properties of water, and back
pain patients who cannot exercise on land feel more comfortable
in
the water. A cardiovascular workout is also possible for any
patient that is unable to use traditional exercise equipment.
